Program Structure
Student-Driven Research


  • Students have the freedom to select their own field and topic of research (e.g., Education, Business, Engineering, Social Sciences, etc.).

Guidance and Mentorship

Each student is assigned two academic supervisors:

  • One from CIU (Germany).
  • One from LU (Zambia).
  • Supervisors assist with research design, methodology, and progress monitoring.

Flexibility and Autonomy
  • The program allows students to work independently while ensuring regular communication with their supervisors.
  • Students must meet specific milestones throughout their research journey.

Instructions for PhD Research Approach


1. Admission Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in the relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • A Research Proposal outlining the research problem, objectives, and methodology.
  • CV/Resume showcasing academic and professional achievements.
  • Evidence of English Proficiency (if applicable).


2. Proposal Development

  • After admission, students refine their research proposal with input from their supervisors.
  • Proposals must include:
  • Title of research.
  • Background and rationale.
  • Research objectives/questions.
  • Methodology (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed).
  • Expected contribution to knowledge.


3. Research and Progress Monitoring

  • Students conduct research independently, under the guidance of their supervisors.
  • Regular progress reports are mandatory (e.g., every 3-6 months).
  • Virtual meetings or in-person sessions (if feasible) with supervisors are conducted to discuss progress.


4. Coursework (if required)

  • Upon successful defense and dissertation approval, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is awarded jointly by Central International University (CIU) and LIFE University (LU).
